Good education is the key to success in every sphere of life. In order to get a good profession and a well paid job you will need to undergo serious training. This is applicable to all individuals looking to become nurses. It’s worth noting that many people who considered enrolling in a nursing school program instead opted for far simpler options such as Red Cross CNA training.

The job involves a lot of serious responsibilities and you really need to be well trained to meet all the necessary criteria and help people get better treatment. At the same time, there are myths about the difficulty of nurse training. It is definitely worth asking the question: how hard is nursing school really?

You have to get good literacy and numeracy skills in order to do well in nursing school. You have to be able to do basic math problems. This is a major concern for a lot of people, but the reality is that the prerequisites for nursing are not particularly hard. Moreover, you will get additional support from teachers and tutors if you have difficulties in this area of study.

Generally, apart from the good literacy skills, it helps if you are a fast learner. You will have to take serious science subjects that need a good level of understanding of chemistry and biology. The good news is that you will not get overly involved in these disciplines as part of your training. In addition, you will have to do plenty of exercises and preliminary tests as part of the course in order to get prepared for any exam so you will certainly learn your lessons. As long as you did well in high school and are determined to study seriously, you will find the nurse training not difficult.

How hard is nursing school in terms of training and study hours? In order to become a nurse you will need to learn a lot of things, but more importantly you will need to practice. The standard classes are not a lot, but they are sufficiently many to make your life a bit harder. There are practicum classes as well. These are much like unpaid internships. You will get to put the skills you have acquired into practice. These practice hours will also make your schedule busier. The good thing is that you can rely on some flexibility when you need it. All teachers are aware of the fact that the people on the course have a job that they go to and in most cases children to raise. In turn, they are quite understanding and helpful when you have hard time juggling with everything.

Overall, how hard is nursing school? It is not hard. You will do great as long as you are committed to studying and improving your skills. The training process will not be easy, but your efforts will certainly pay off eventually. The important thing is that you will receive the understanding and support you need as well as some flexibility when necessary. The teachers are certainly willing to aid you through the process. More importantly, given the specifics of the training the students get to form very string bonds between each other from the start. This means that you will receive even more help with studying and great support in general.

The decision to attend nursing school is one that should be lauded. It means taking a step to improve your life and gaining valuable skills that make you extremely marketable for employment. The demands of nursing school are quite rigorous no matter the academic level pursued and excelling in nursing school requires much time for study and practice.

Considering how time-consuming a nursing school program is, the issue of supporting yourself financially can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, not being able to find ways to self-support through nursing school can deter some people from beginning and completing a nursing program. Supporting oneself through nursing school is not only possible it is also very doable!

One of the first suggestions for financial support while in nursing school is to seek out various forms of financial aid. Financial aid comes in the form of grants, scholarships, work study and loans. Some financial aid is private and others are provided through the federal government. Apply for financial aid even if you don’t think you’ll qualify. If you should qualify for financial aid accept every single dime! Any monies in excess of your tuition and fees for nursing school can be used to self-support. Many people take out loans either subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford loans or private loans while in nursing school to pay for rent, food, healthcare costs and other living expenses. In some cases there are grants and scholarships specifically for assisting nursing students with living expenses. There are a variety of financial aid options that should be explored to assist in supporting yourself through nursing school.

Another option in obtaining support through nursing school is to work as a certified nursing assistant or CNA. Working as a CNA is a wonderful way to financially self-support through nursing school while also gaining necessary nursing skills. Many vocational schools and community colleges offer CNA training classes for relatively affordable prices. The training classes usually take between two and three months to complete and then a certification test must be taken and passed. There are even some hospitals, medical centers and nursing homes that offer CNA training courses for free with the stipulation that you work for their company for a certain period of time. Certified nursing assistants work a variety of flexible shifts and also make decent pay. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to earn money while learning critical nursing skills makes working as a CNA while attending nursing school a good option for self-support.

Finally, choose a reasonable path to obtain your nursing degree that will allow you to survive. If you need to work full time because of personal obligations such as family going to school part time for nursing is more feasible. If you want to go to school full time for nursing but can’t work for full time it will be necessary to work part time and reduce your expenses by getting a roommate or budgeting. Ultimately, supporting yourself through nursing school is possible by taking advantage of various resources.

There are many different types of nursing degrees, all with differing requirements and prerequisites. Deciding on with type of degree to pursue will depend on your available resources, time, and interests. One thing is certain, however, every type of nursing degree opens up a door to life-long financial and job security.

With more than 2 million jobs, nursing is the largest of all the health care jobs and occupations. Nursing is one of the 10 occupations projected to have the largest numbers of new jobs. With an ongoing chronic, world-wide shortage of qualified applicants, job opportunities are extremely good. As a nurse, your earnings are above average, particularly for advanced practice nurses, who have additional education or training.

There are many, many specialties, degrees, certifications that you can pursue. Below are some of degrees you can pursue through a nursing school program, either campus-based, or online.

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Takes 2-3 years. Offered at many community colleges. Prepares you to provide RN care in numerous settings.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Takes 4 years. Also referred to as Baccalaureate degree. Offered at many California State Universities and some private colleges. Prepares you to provide RN care in numerous settings and to move to administrative and leadership positions.

Masters Entry Level Program in Nursing
Designed for adults who have a baccalaureate degree in another field and wish to become RNs. Takes 1-2 years depending on how many nursing course prerequisites you have already completed. Graduate receives a masters degree.

Once you have completed those steps your on your way to a rewarding career in Nursing.

If you are interested in a health care career, but aren’t able or ready to pursue a 2- or 4- year degree, you might want to consider an accelerated degree program.

Another consideration is to pursue a CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant certification. The requirements are much lower, and CNA training classes are much easier and quicker to complete. This can also be a great stepping-stone to becoming a licensed nurse, and can give you invaluable “hands-on” exposure to virtually every environment and facility that you would find as a nurse.

Once you have completed your degree your steps will differ depending on which state you live in. Most of the time, you will need to send an application to the Board of Registered Nursing within your state. To receive the application simply go to your favorite search engine and search for your state’s Nursing Application. In addition to an application, you will need to have your Nursing School send your transcripts to the State Board. The last step will be to take and pass the National Council Licensing Examination.

Depending on which different type of nursing degree you choose, you may not be able to find a campus based nursing school program in close proximity to your home, if this is the case you should consider online nursing schools as they provide an alternative to campus based education. You can find online courses and degree programs for nearly any area or specialty.

One of the quickest & easiest ways to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is to take a Red Cross CNA class. Certified Nurses can earn an average annual salary of $45,000.

A Nursing Assistant is an important member of the health care team. They often have a high level of experience and ability, but without qualification is unable to often perform some tasks due to issues of liability and legality.

In today’s hospitals and extended care facilities, nursing assistants play a crucial role as part of the health care team that includes many personnel outside of nurses. Nurse assistants are needed to provide routine care so that nurses can provide care that only they can perform, as outlined by each state’s Nurse Practice Acts, such as formulating care plans, nursing assessments, administering medication, and assisting in surgery room preparation.

The nurse assistant must not only be very skilled in the actual procedures being performed but must also be able to observe a patient’s condition and report that information back to the nurse. With their other responsibilities, the nurse cannot spend large amounts of time in the room with the patient so the nurse assistant is often referred to as the nurse’s “eyes and ears”.

This is from the Red Cross Certified Nursing Assistant Nurse Assistant Training schedule:

“Successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations. Due to the nature of the skills in this program, you will be participating in strenuous activities. If you have a medical condition or disability that may prevent you from taking part in a skill session, or if you have any questions about your ability to participate fully in this course, discuss them with your health-care provider and the appropriate person at the Red Cross chapter before you start your course.”

There is also a nationally recognized American Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training program that provides re-certification.

In addition to the Red Cross CNA class, there are CNA training classes available through local nursing school programs. You can even find online CNA classes, though the actual certification will require
